The scores are clearly on the board at Frimley CC!

29th July 2015

The results are crystal clear for Surrey side Frimley CC this season – thanks to a brand new, bespoke electronic scoreboard from thecricketgroundshop.co.uk at the club’s Chobham Road ground.

The mobile scoreboard was built to the club’s own specifications and, as Frimley is heavily involved in Surrey CCC’s Visually Impaired team it had some very specific requirements that an ‘off the shelf’ system simply couldn’t meet, as Club Chairman, Gary Dunford, explains:

“Our existing scoreboard had fallen into disrepair and we’d been using a small stand-up one that simply wasn’t good enough. As home to the Surrey Visually Impaired County Cricket Squad, it was important that information such as Total and Wickets stood out from the other information to aid those players with partial vision. Secondly, our location on a recreation ground meant the scoreboard needed to be protected from vandalism when not in use and also have its own power source.

“Having recently had a new permanent net facility constructed by total-play, we knew the expertise in the company, and reached out to them when it came to creating a new scoreboard to meet our needs.”

Through many months of consultation, thecricketgroundshop.co.uk proposed a scoreboard design that combined a mix of digit sizes in the display, a bespoke trolley to fit in the club’s storage pound and the ability to run off a leisure battery. In addition to being able to power the scoreboard for around 4 games from a single charge, the battery was fitted with a 60w solar panel; allowing it to recharge not just during games but whilst sitting in storage. With the scoreboard having been in regular use throughout the 2015 playing season, Gary says:

“We’re delighted with the new scoreboard. It meets our needs exactly and the solar panel is brilliant – it means we’ve yet to see the charge fall below the 75% mark! The feedback has been fantastic with a lot of the opposition clubs very impressed by the solution. The way thecricketgroundshop team shared their experiences and worked with us made the whole project much easier. There were several changes in design as we went along, but on every occasion I felt that the company were partners with us in the project, simply aiming to give us the best possible product to meet our needs. It is fantastic to have worked with a company who cares so deeply about grass roots cricket.”
